What does this mean to me as an existing iView MediaPro or Microsoft Expression Media customer?

Microsoft Expression Media was acquired from Microsoft by Phase One in May 2010, marking an exciting new chapter for the evolution of the product.
What's been cooking since then? Well, the product line has become part of Phase One's organization, and the new version of the product, Media Pro (based on iView Media Pro and Microsoft Expression Media) is now available for trial and purchase. Owners of previous versions can easily upgrade to Media Pro and import existing catalogs from both iView Media Pro and Expression Media.
The new release features support for larger catalogs, seamless compatibility between Media Pro and Capture One, an updated user interface to match the sleek look of Capture One, support for XMP sidecar metadata exchange as well as support for photo and video files from the latest cameras.

Does Media Pro support file formats other than photo and video files?

While this version continues to provide support for audio, DTP, font, text and HTML files, Media Pro is primarily a photo manager for photo and video files. Development is focused on providing helpful features and workflow enhancements for professional and passionate photographers.

Why has Media Pro added support of XMP sidecar metadata exchange?

The Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) is a standard, created by Adobe Systems Inc., for processing and storing standardized and proprietary information relating to the contents of a file.
XMP sidecar metadata files contain metadata for your photos. They have the same name as the photo file, only with a .xmp suffix. The advantage of these files is that you don't have to modify the original image file and it is extremely useful for exchanging metadata between Media Pro and photo editing software applications.
Media Pro and Capture One use XMP sidecar files for metadata exchange between the two applications. This is essential as Capture One is a non-destructive image editor, meaning that it does not alter the original RAW image in any way save for renaming the file.

Is Media Pro still an independent photo management application?

Yes, by using industry standard XMP support with sidecar metadata exchange you can continue to work with your favorite editing software and use Media Pro as an independent photo management solution.

Is Media Pro available on both the Mac OS and Windows platforms?

Yes, Media Pro is available on both the Mac OS and Windows platforms.

Will Media Pro be integrated with Capture One?

Phase One's initial focus has been to create new workflow benefits to photographers when they use Media Pro and Capture One together.
It is Phase One's general policy not to comment on future releases. However, customers can expect that Phase One will continue to invest in professional photo management and image editing software and make the combined toolset the most effective choice for photographers who need to manage very large, high quality image files and collections in a fast and efficient photography workflow.
Capture One provides state-of-the-art photo editing tools that will assist photographers in achieving the perfect look for every image. Media Pro complements Capture One with its professional photo management capabilities.

Why was the Capture One image rendering built into Media Pro?

With Capture One's professional image rendering engine, photographers will be able to instantly magnify and evaluate raw images with correct colors, in detail and including adjustments. Media Pro also provides the option to use Windows Imaging Components on Windows and Core Image processing on the Mac as the image rendering engine.

In which languages is Media Pro available?

The initial release of Media Pro is available in English only.
